Came across this article (http://www.manufacturingtalk.com/news/cyo/cyo100.html) recently. It may trigger a thought process . . . . . . . . .

Like: What about a "hot" table with a a thin layer of hot-melt adhesive?

been there, done that. when machining metal pieces, I've often used sheets of hot-melt adhesive to secure the work to a clamping plate. I've also used CA glue, both work well but the CA is much quicker.

the problem with wood is removing the glue. with metal, you can heat, scrape, and use agressive solvents.

freezing water though may be an answer. of course you'll need a material that isn't affected by getting wet.
