View Full Version : Gravoply II engraving
Looking for some speed and feed info for engraving Gravoply II (a color ply laminated ABS sheetgoods product used for nametags, office signs, awards, etc). This stuff is normally engraved with a rotary or drag engraver by trophy and award shops but I want to try on the Shopbot. It will be a 1/16" bit cutting 2" letters using Ariel Narrow and will only cut about 1/64" or so into the material (just enought to expose the different color ply under the top ply. Thanks for any advice. Pete
I usually use a 1/4" shank engraving bit 30 deg/36deg with a .05 to .20 CED's and I'll hit it at 20k moving .4 IPS
But this is profiling for tactile Lettering (Gravoply) on ADA signs, but I pretty much used that same for engraving too. Maybe this might help
Erik, thanks very much for the feedback. What is your source for that router bit and is there a stock number that I can refer to please? Thanks again. Pete
Here's a link you can go to

What you want is a STD (lol and not that kind) or a PRO. You might want the PRO .005 0r .010for what you do at 24,000RPM's
Thanks Erik - I am sure that information has helped more than just me.
