I have a friend who is interested in a scalloped look for one of his art projects. Looks a lot like the backside of a seashell. Any ideas on how to carve something like this? The highest points would be about 3/4", I'd probably use foam first, then probably oak to get the full effect. Any help would be greatly helpful!

Use a 2-rail sweep strategy with a cross-section in any 3D modelling program. Then toolpath with any 3D CAM software.
OR
Get an actual shell & probe with SB probe.

I think I better start saving some dough so I can get ArtCamPro....can this be done using VCarve Pro? I do have a probe and will try the 3d thing later. I have only used it for perimeter probing, not a 3d probe yet!

No, Vcarve pro does not do rail sweeps it is a 2D program. Cut 3D will do 3D cutting but the 3D profile needs to be drawn in another program.

Download a trial version of Rhino3D to create your 3D model then import into Cut 3D.

Thanks for the input! The probing of the shell worked well, as did the Rhino trial version.

Glad that worked out Chuck but dont forget the 3d designes one can purchase from James Booth. Many to select from at reasonable prices and he's a great guy to work with.

I did send the info to James Booth and he gave me a descent price for the file! I think I am going with that option!
