Wanted you all to know that you can cut slate... I was impressed with the performance of the machine. Had never done this before.

Kept it simple, used a regular Vgroove carbide bit in a SAE40 oil bath. Results were very impressive and was not very messy at all.

Used a slow speed on the spindle, about 11K and a feed rate of 30.

Came out clean and letters are sharp.

I'm impressed with my Shopbot yet again...

Trying, the file limits are killin me. The device you see by the bit is a paint brush clamped to the y. It helps keep lub around the bit... Works well

Some 3d fun, know it isn't slate, but I'm bored waiting for the job to finish.... ;-)

Jim, "I feel your pain" about file size limits, but go here: http://www.xat.com/internet_technology/download.html
and download "jpeg optimizer" it will reduce the filesize while leaving your deminsions the same. It affects the resolution but not bad enough that it matters for display here.
