Reducing PC router exhaust blowing across the table

I still use a router because the worst that can go wrong costs about $250 (a new router).

One big down side to the PC router is that its exhaust blows horizontally across the table and puts a lot of dust into the air.

I replaced the inner dust skirt on the Alpha dust collector as shown in the picture.

The new inner skirt is about 1/2 inch taller than the old outer skirt.

Virtually all of the exhaust goes up now and there is plenty of room for the upper wrench.

Total investment - 50 cents of material and about 15 minutes.

Wish I had tried this 3 years ago!

One thing I figured out with the wrenches (after quite some time) is to keep the angle between them fairly small,

and then squeeze them together with both hands on both wrenches... (like a sissors) to tighten or loosen the nut....

Holding the wrenches 90 degrees apart is a set up for future pain....

Does that mean the top wrench to the right or the bottom wrench to the right... and are you looking at the wrenches up from the bottom or from the bottom wrench down from the top ??

I bought the deflector from SB. It works great and i can do fine finish work without the dust boot on and without chip and dust going everywhere.

RE: loosening / tightening...

To loosen, move the wrench that hooks on the nut in the same direction that the spin / cut of the teeth would go. Reverse the nut wrench direction to tighten.

Works for table-saws, too.
