View Full Version : Okay, next, a spindle vs router question on drilling

Hello All -

I gather that for some reason spindle configured-bots don't like straight end loads on the collet, hence all of the remarks for ramped Z cuts. What do you do for peck drilling or 3-D carving, or using the digitizing probe. Forgive any ignorance here, I've never seen a spindle equipped bot (the school shop has a benchtop w/one NOISY PC router)

I was carving out some marijuana leaves the other day (some things never change) and taking a very close look at the Z movements, and it was making innumerable small straight "drilling" movements - how would this work if spindles setups don't like plunge cuts?

We would really like to spec our bot with a 3HP spindle, if we can swing it. The noise issue is of prime concern, the additional speed of production would be gravy.

What am I missing?
