Aluminum ENGRAVE

I wanted to use an engraving bit to apply a dog from the mega collection.(on to a piece of .050 alum.) maybe a .020 deep cut?
Anybody have a suggestion for a bit to use?
I have a few engraving bits but don't dare try them in alum. I don't want to burn it up without first asking.

I have been using one of Russ Todd's diamond drag bits from Widgetworks unlimited. Take a look at his web page and see if that would work for you.

I engraved my Aluminum valve covers with a standard V tip carbide engraving cutter. Ran it 0.020 deep. No problems.

If you go to any place that sells machine tooling, you will have more choices for cutting bits then you can imagine.

agreed... since I started doing brass, I have found that there are a lot more options for metal bits than for cnc grade wood bits. and at better prices (probably just by volume of sales)
