Add a Gantry/4th axis??

First let me explain I haven't got a shopbot yet, but do have a Legacy Ornamental mill and wondered if I bought a Alpha 96 4x8' model could I add the 4th axis to be able to do things like columns and spirals on spindle stock? Does anyone know where i could find out more info on that type of thing?
