I just recieved the demo CD from ShopBot and it includes a clip of a lasser cutting head. Does any one know how much they run and where I can get more info.

Martin,

It all depends. First off, if you buy the parts
surplus, and do all the installation yourself, you
are probably looking about $3-$4K. If you want
one off the shelf, probably twice that or more.
This would get you something in the 20 watt power
range, but you would still have to install it.

Also, a LOT of ancillary things need to be added
such as proper ventilation (expecially if you are
planning on cutting any plastics) and other
consumables (such as focusing lenses, fire
resistant cutting surface, safety glasses ect.).

As for more info, you might want to look up:

http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/lasersam.htm

This has more information than you will ever want
to know about every laser.

Synrad also has a really good site for laser power
requirements for different materials. Check out
their online monthly applications "newsletter".

For sources of parts, lasers, tubes, powersupplies
ect, you might try places like Ebay, and other
electronic surplus stores.

Hope this helps,

Bruce

You may also want to do a keyword search on laser with "no time limit" from the forum menu.
