I have customer that does the whole eco product tradeshow display thing.
so he wants his signs back to be plywood that is made up of exposed edge. so think of 3/4" wide 8' long 3/4" plywood strips glued face to face.
the back is 96" wide 18" tall I will recommend outdoor plywood or marine ply. I was thinking of fully sealing and coating the faces and ends with epoxy to fully seal them and then a clearcoat to protect it from uv. of course all voids would need filled. I was thinking of some appleply with a outdoor glue since it really does not have any voids.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but it sounds like a perfect application for using the ShopBot as a planer. Glue up the blank extra thick and surface it to remove seams/alignment issues. Maybe even fill the voids before taking the final pass, so you don't have to sand down extra putty.

yes or i will use the machine to cut the slats and alignment pins not sure about that yet. I won't be doing the finish work though so I want to give them a ready to finish part.
I love using it to flatten surfaces.

Check out what they call Lam Beams - it's basically very thick laminated lumber used for joists. I've seen restaurant tables made from it, with a heavy coat of clear and it looks pretty cool.

it is easy to make it will take less then a sheet of 3/4" ply. a glue lam would cost more. I know when I built my table it cost less to use 3/4 Russian ply at 85.00 a sheet.

We did this for a sign we used 3/4 Baltic birch cut in strips.

This furniture is really inspiring...

I was trying to think how you would make it with the bot - then it hit me... Duh! Just flip your model on it's side, slice it up in PW3D, and machine away.

The sanding/cleanup must be a real bear!

You could slice it side to side and top to bottom and then mill like every third or fourth piece in both directions. You'd end up with an egg crate kind of thing like those cardboard deer I see all the time. Just sand the edges on a Oscillating spindle. Might be fun to try (In fact I think I will!) It will help me get rid of some scraps taking up room!

We did a job that wanted the plywood end finish and we used Baltic birch glued up no voids and it gives a nice laminated look to it.
