My wife has about 8 hrs in the design and programming of this one and I have about 8 hrs of cutting. Most of it was done with a 1/8" bit to get all of the detail in the 3/4" Polytone.

Bud, Nice sign. Wish I could see a close up.
I have had some limited success with sign sales and fabrication in wood and HDU. Am trying to find suitable cut and finish raw material like colorcore to get between the HDU and vinyl price points. For some reason not many folks use HDU in Chicago area but vinyl guys are on every street corner.
Is this polytone a cut, clean, and ship material? If anyone knows of any others that machine well with color options please drop me a line.
Thanks

Bud, all that yellow in the picture is messing around my pic converter too - so I have posted your pic fullsize over here (http://www.scapenotes.com/01.jpg).
That sign sure is a lot of work with that awful wiggly font. You have far more patience than our customers are normally willing to pay for!

Bud,
You might be willing to try that font again if you traced it in a trace program where you can use the settings to limit the amount of lines used. In fairly recent post Ken Zey suggested
Acme TraceArt http://www.freefirestudio.com/ as a decent raster trace program.
At $79.50 it seems a far better option than $150 I paid for RasterFratz. In Acme TraceArt if you trace the "outline" and play with the "straighten" settings you might get an approximate of the image that you can live with. One needs to take care not to straighten the lines too much or it will cut out the finer details and corners. I have downloaded the trial version and have been tinkering with it to get an idea of what it can do. At the present time I am planning to purchase it for a few upcoming projects. Having said that, I would still plan on editting my trace results in a CAD program before making the final toolpath. Sometimes I find myself utilizing the different features of several programs to get my desired results.
My final note: As ever I am always impressed with Gerald's insites and knowledge combined with a willingness share and help out.
Cheers, Robert

Robert
That was the way the customer wanted it. That is just the way that font looks, ( Viner Hand ) is the font, that would not be my first choice of a font for a large sign like this!
Thanks

Bud,
I didn't mean to over-simplify things, I need to agree with you about what the customer wants and gets also that Viner Hand looks like a pain to work with. I would requalify my suggestion a general one about the tracing program as a potentially handy tool for certain types of projects. A while back I ordered a new (Craftsman style) font that looked quite simple but when I got ready to cut a sample in wood I found that it had lots of little lines. When I cut it it was bumpy & tedious. I was a little dismayed at the prospect of retacing my font manually in AutoCad. I found that a tracing program could smooth the font up a little. It has also been handy for cleaning up for scanned in logos and images from clipart etc.
Thanks,
Robert

Here is something we are very proud of.
We created 5 of these for a nearby city.
Gold leafed carved letters are very nice.

Todd, loved your sign. Smart putting the Mayors name on it. Every time you get a new Mayor you get to cut a new piece for the signs. Cool.
