Does anyone sharpen their own carbide v bits?

I do it when I forgot to send them out. it seems to work ok.
I read in an old router book that you can hone bits 6 or 7 times before they need to be sharpened.
I bought a diamond stone to hone carbide bits.

Can you tell me where you send you bits? And do they come back like new. I use the 3-wing 60-degree v-carve bit from Amana ($56 each). I would love to get more use from each one.
Thanks

Scott,
I have the same Amana bit you are talking about. There is a company down the road from me that sharpens my bits for $2.95 to $5.95 each. They charged me if I remember right about $3.95 to sharpen the Amana bit. I have a Whiteside MDF Door ($56) bit that they charge me $2.95 to sharpen. I get just about as many cuts out of the re-sharpened bit as I do the new bit. I can drop them out on Monday and pick them up on Thursday in most cases. Look around you area for a shop that can do it for you.

Andy,
Do you have a contact # for your bit sharpener? Where is Oakwood Ga? I am in Augusta and have a few bits that need sharpening. Thanks Gene

I buy some of my bits from Woodline http://www.woodline.com/ I just received a flyer from them that they now offer a bit sharpening service. I couldn't find anything on their web site about sharpening but I'm sure if you call them they can answer your questions

When I was in Ohio I used:
Buzz's Saw & Tool Sharpening
535 Bunty Station Road
Delaware, OH 43015.
Phone: (740) 369-5886
buzzherring@hotmail.com (mailto:buzzherring@hotmail.com)
The man's service and quality was spoiling. He is so good I even let him sharpen some of my old handsaws.
After you stop laughing about that, consider a few of my handsaws and some of my chisels are pre US War of Northern Aggression (1860). It is not everyone you trust a very rare tool you use to possibly destroy it .... and get charged for the ..... servicing.

Jim,
I'm curious to know what you've decided regarding bit sharpening. Have you found something that works well for you?

Phil,
Sorry for the late response. Just got back from vacation.
I took the bits to the hardware store where a sharpening service picks up once a week. I think it was $6 ea or something like that.
