Outdoor Letters

Hi
I had a guy ask me if I could cut out 23 letters 14 inches high. They would be mounted outside with spacers 1.5 inches from the wall. They will be exposed to everything Northern Michigan weather can throw at it. If you were to do this job what material would you use.

Although the thread asks how those particular letters were made, it also has links to sources of weather resistant materials (Gatorboard, foam, metallic, acrylic, etc.). Also whether it is sensible to "make" or "buy" the letters.

If the job calls for something more dimensional than flat letters, I believe the Sculpt Nouveau product is waterproof.

this is a new letter install method someone just sent me. have not had time to look at it in detail.

The sign on my shop is made of foam. Same texture as an ice chest. We put one coat of paint on them. I was concerned about weathering but this sign has been through one hurricane and 2 hail storms and looks brand new. I'm more than happy with the choice.

When it is convenient could you post a picture of your shop sign. I'm really interested in your ice chest look.

I'm in the process of trying to design a sign with a "hammered copper" feel to it. I need suggestions for paint brands simulating copper and also a weathered finish to put on top.

I think I can handle the hammered texture finish.
Frustration should finally come in handy.

This will also be an exterior application.

Look at the Sculpt Nouveau
( www.sculptnouveau.com (http://www.sculptnouveau.com) )copper finish and then choose any one of their patinas for the weathered look. All of their paints/coatings are suitable for exterior applications...
