View Full Version : Stopping file after drilling

I presume there must be an easy way to stop the file after the drilling- would be needed if tool changing manually- I would like to do this as I prefer to run my router at low rpm for the drill file and as soon as I start cutting I like to crank the speed up. I tried assigning a different tool number for the drilling but that didn't help. I tried my manual but didn't see the answer.

Hi Lorin,
IF you are not changing the tool, but only the speed of your router, insert a PAUSE in the stop you want the machine to stop. This can be done by using the ShopBot Editor. Then you can move the speed control on the router and push enter to continue.
IF you need to change the tool, then you will need to create two different toolpaths and run the drilling one, change tool, re-zero the Z axis and run the second toolpath.

Lorin...
What toolchanger files are you using? With the SB Link there will not be a file to edit, so the fix is slightly more involved. IF you are using my toolchanger files, I can build you a custom file that does this for you.

no tool changer file. I have been doing all with 5mm compression. Just thought it would extend bit life to drill slower. I get no burning in holes if I run the router at low RPM.

I will assume you have "END" in each of the C6, C7 and C9 files.
Add this to your C9 file before the "END" statement:
'CHANGE ROUTER RPM
PAUSE
should say "end" here
This will give you a pause before each cutting segment that will allow you to change the RPM. If this doesnt work the way you want, email me (address in profile)

Lorin...
Email me a copy of your C6, C7 and C9 files along with the my_variables file and I will set them up for you. I will have a couple more questions after I see the files.

Pardon my ignorance with all things computer-I am not sure exactly what you need. Is this the actual file that I use for cutting at the ShopBot?

Yes, these files are located in the C:\SbParts\Custom folder. Attach them to an email and send to me. I will make the modifications and send them back to you. When you receive them, copy them and overwrite the originals. If you have any questions, or need help to do this, email me.
