Eliminating Stair steps on V Carved Letters

What is the best way to troubleshoot this problem?

I have just tried making some v carved letters on some signs. I noticed a small stair step pattern inside each of the letters. Is this because my step-over of step-down is too large?

You need oo increase your stepover.
