Hi all,

Does a product exist that would act as a hardener for signfoam that can be applied either before or after the painting of the color?

Also, does a product exist that will act as an overall sealant to tie several pieces which have been 3D carved and painted seperately and then inlaid into the base material? We're planning on using silicone and VHB to hold the pieces from the back, but is there a product that can be painted on from the front to fill any minute gaps and further lock the pieces together??

you could use west system epoxy, and tint it with paint to match current parts, either latex or oil will work, but white is a challenge, and it will appear glossy.

Michael,

Your question is difficult to answer as we don't know what density of HDU you are using. Probably 15lb.

To fill pores you can use Precision boards crack filler. It's the same product as their primer only thicker. You can brush it on and smooth it out. It's easy to sand.

It's hard to beat High Build Auto Primer. Two coats with a spray gun should be enough. If you add too much lacquer thinner it will come off a little grainy. It's very easy to use and very forgiveing. You can keep spraying untill all defects disapear. 400 grit wet/dry gives a glass smooth surface.

For an adhesive you could look at Instant Glue. Yes the cheepee deepee glue in little tubes from Walley Wld. A thicker version is very popular with wood workers. There is a spray accelerator which makes it set almost instantly. It's a terrific product for HDU.

I like VHB but it's not your best choice. Silicone works well, it's cheap and available.

Happy glueing!

Has anyone used the blue or pink insulation foam for signs? Can you paint this foam?
Thanks

Also use the search function to look up the other threads which previously covered this topic. "FSC 88-WB" is a good starting point...
