I am trying to mount a new spindle on my 2nd Z on my PRS Alpha.
Its a dedicated 1 1/2hp drill but weighs in at 46lbs. The springs on my 4hp HSD are not strong enough for it and shopbot says its aware of the problem and are looking for stronger ones.

I'm going to need something in the next few days.
Anyone know a source of stronger springs?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I have the same problem. As long as the machine is on the Z won't move. Its when you turn it off that it drifts towards the table. I'm going to wait until ShopBot gets some better springs. You could look in one of the building supply centers for some stiffer springs.

Bob, I would like to see your dual Z setup. Could you e-mail some photos to the e-mail address in my profile.

Thanks

Bob..
I just put heavier springs on my PRSalpha, I got them from ShopBot. If you havnt already, you might want to give them a call. Here is the spring info that might help you order:
OEM spring (PRSa w/4hp HSD) 7" long, 3/4" OD, .066 wire dia.

Heavy duty supplied by SB 8.5" long, 3/4" OD, .081 wire dia.
I dont know how they are rated, but this may be a starting point for you.
