Anyone set up for this? Does Ecab offer the option to predrill the ends of the panels for screws? I would really like to know how to do this.

Hey Justin-Once you can set up for end boring you can go all dowel!! The thing is the drills don't do so well at that. You can set up an indexing clamp at the end of the table but to really get your parts to align with tight tolerance and a smooth enough hole you need to drill with no apparent runout. Check on E-bay for spindle motor and you'll find a spindle with VFD for under $500 that may just do the job. Check out the thread about updating my PRT and you'll understand why I want to raise my table surface while I'm doing that. Can't answer you about e-cab, but am working on that for my box machining.

Justin...
Its not a one click option, but yes you can add the holes by using the Part Editor. I am most likely going to add these to our seed cabinets in the near future.

If you are just looking to do vertical drilling through the sides of the panels you can setup one of the RTA hardware pieces to do this. For example, I setup an unused Confirmat part to have a hole pattern to drill a 5mm through hole for all of the RTA locations. Then you just select the RTA joinery where you want it. Specify the locations from the ends of the panels and the maximum distance between the holes.

Is that what you were looking for?

Does anyone have a good source for RTA hardware?

Great tip Joe. I've been added them in manually in PE, then further editing them in the Constraint Manager. Looking forward to trying your method out instead.

Tom,

I haven't used enough of these to recommend one type over another, but Hafele carries quite a few different styles:

I have only used the Hafele RTA hardware. As Nat mentioned, Hafele has the best variety of RTA hardware available. I generally use the Rafix or Rafix 32 hardware since this works well with a CNC. I make shoe storage benches using these, and they need to be really strong and solid. I prefer to use the 6mm bolts into the brass fittings that are inserted into an 8mm hole. This makes for a really strong reversible connection. What is your application?
