First I apologize if this is duplicate but can't find elsewhere. I have some questions about the link... I have an older prt w/4g update. No vac, single PC router.
-I normally screw sheets down to table with screw hole markers. How do I identify w/link, or do I just have to put a collar around the entire sheet?
-Bit changes, I see posts about a macro.... Does this provide for a way to re-zero the bit to bed and then carry on in file?
-Does the link handle DXF file nesting or does everything come out of the ecabs file?
I have been running a Thermwood router for years with the factory training on ecabs and the supercontrol, but we are now looking at setting up a smaller remote site w/the shopbot (which continues to be a solid platform year after year)...

I have the link comming for my prt, so I can let you know pretty soon. I do think trying to cut without vacuum is going to be like hopping on one foot though. I think you would be better off spending the money there first.
I have not tried importing a dxf into ecabs but that seems counter productive.

As I recall...
There is no way presently included in the Link to "locate" screws. Collar value can be user set. That said, if you plan on dados or other depth critical operations, vacuum is a must. Unless you have a better supplier that we do, many sheets have 1/4" bow before vac sucks them down.
You will be able to manually change bits and rezero. This is done on top of the material and uses the Link output material thickness (&ZSHIFT) variable to set the actual zero to the bed.
Unlike its parent, the supercontroller, there is no DXF import into the Link. You can import them into eCabs, but its a few extra steps over what you are used to.
The Link handles nesting and tooling, but only from eCabs generated .TWD's.

I am using a PRT 4G with a milwaukee 3.5 hp. Supposedly better than the PC. I do have an open source vac system though. I use 2 imperial vac motors. Without vacuum I am not sure how much luck you would have. I am happy with my setup. I cut and drill with a 5mm compression bit from Centurion. I feed at 2.7-3 ips with 2 passes. 1 climb one conventional. I find I get 15 to 20 sheets per bit in particle core Mel before the edge gets rough. processing 1 sheet depending on # of holes drilled etc will usually take 12 to 20 minutes.

Just a thought on the screw hole markers. Why don't you mark the screw hole locations as defects on the sheet. Once you've done one, you can duplicate it rather easily.

Everyone, thank you for the responses. This is great information. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll keep everyone posted on progress. I agree, do really need to get a vacuum installed.
