I am trying my first litho. I loaded the shopbot file. MY material is 1/4" thick. I'm using a 1/8th" ballnose. As im watching the file being cut it looks as though it is just going to cut out a flat square on this material. When i cut a photo into a box lid the router z height changed with the "topography" of the picture. I don't see that happening here. Since this is my first one, does it hog out material down to say an 1/8th inch then start cutting the picture from there?

You should be getting high spots where the dark areas of the photo are. Are you cutting full depth in one pass or is stepdown set such that it will make two passes?

What was the max z height in your simulation? Is it less than -.2?

I had someone else make the file for me, so i'm not sure. It finished cutting and just cut a square out like you see above. First lesson learned...do a preview on the file..i didn't. I (think) what might have been the problem, is he has made files for me before that when i load up in part wizard I get an error message saying "made with older version of artcam, not all parts of the file will load" or something like that. I think maybe thats what happened here. Although the .sbp file (the cutting instructions) should not be affected by what ever version a file is made in artcam right?

Did he make the sbp file in artcam or do you do in partwizard? Partwizard is 2d only - the sbp file would have to be made from artcam since it's 3d relief. If you made cut file in partwizard, you could easily end up with what you got there.

There is a method to do lithopanes with photo vcarve, but i've not looked into it.

Now you tell me! doh!
The friend sent me another file and i set it up to air cut and the z axis seemed to go up and down so it must have the right info in the file. The first one i cut was only 500+k and this file is 5+ megs so i think it will work. It was too late to try it tonite, so i will try it tomorrow and report my progress (or lack thereof).
