Broke my darn Onsrud 1/8 ball nose

I can't believe it, I carved a really long ( for me ) 3D file and then I manually moved the dust foot to pick up some shavings & crashed the bit. I can't find how much they cost, anyone know?

Lou, I'm looking at their advertised ball nose, but I only see max flute length or 1/2 in. Does that mean 1/2 in twist then repeating on a longer bit - I see a bit 4 inches long. I didnt find Onsrud yet, tx Neville

Nev, ouch... the 77-100 series are the tapered ballnose bits from Onsrud. The 77-102 is the one in the starter kit from ShopBot.

I buy direct from Onsrud for their bits. Yeah, not cheap. I've found Onsrud bits to be solid with long lasting cutting edges though.

Just depending on your specific needs, you might try metal cutting bits. I buy everything from 1/32" to 1/4" ball nose for cutting lithophanes and other chores. Cost...$10 to $12 for bits up to 1/8", I remember something like $14 for 1/4". Your local machine shop supplier should be able to help you.

280 1/4" (b for ballnose) (l for long) (or 240bl
