I have a request from a woman to make a bed or headboard of "Tow-mater" for her young son who has cancer. My initial thought was to make a straight on face shot for the headboard but then i got to thinking that the front of the model could be at the footboard and the body of the truck could be the bed part.
Frankly that is probably more ambitious then I think I can pull off and so far my modeling skills have not made me happy with the end result.
Does anyone have a 2d/3d object of this or advice on how might be the best way to design something like this? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jack,
A full bed sculpt could be done,,, but I think it would be ambitious too.
I modeled Mater for a friend to make a flip top desk for his grandson,,, I would propose a head board on which you v-carved most of the image,, then model his eyes, eye brows, smile, teeth and maybe his tow hook to stand proud.
It seems like a nice balance could be found without a massive time ( and expense )requirement.

hi charles
That looks cool. I can't seem to find a straight on view. All the pics i see are like yours, a 3/4 view and I think it might be far easier to cut/model with a straight on view.
How much do the modeling guys charge to do a 3d of that image?
Can you give them the vector drawing and limit the time they spend to keep costs down?

Looks like the windshield and mirrors would be the headboard and the lights and teeth would be the footboard, looks pretty cool to me!

What about the front of the truck for the footboard and the upper cab part with the mirrors for the headboard ?? Maybe some side detail with wheels and you sleep "in" the truck.

My original thought was to just take a flat 90 pic like this one (thanks charles) and make it a headboard with the mattress around where the bumper is.
My imaginatio and creativity got me revved up to make that the footboard with some depth (2 ft) and the rest of mattress in the body of the truck with the hook straddling.
However reality slapped me in the face and it will probably be just a nice headboard.
If anyone has some modeling skills and can give me some advice off forum i'd appreciate it. You guys are the best!

Jack contact Rob Williams. He is on this forum and is good friends with Tye Pennington of Extreme Makeover. They do cool stuff like this all the time and might be able to give ideas and design to get going. Please give my best to the family and that little boy. Terrible decease and fight especially for children....not fair at all. If you get stumped I have aspire and if you email me a good pic I will give it a try to help and make you a graphic. Let me know.

At $0.95 each, buy two or three Mater's and bandsaw into sections and scan. It sounds as though these are molded plastic and not metal. You'd have to cut 3d effects from blue foam or something to be cost effective and attach to mdf frame or something like that.
Sounds like a fun project.

Isn't this what Aspire is all about?
Importing a pic then giving it 3D qualities the SB program recognizes?
Then ..... machine?
