Is there a way to turn off the snap for the guidelines in Part Works? It snaps to the 1/10th of an inch and there are times I don't want that. I can't figure it out.

Bill, You can bring up the "Snap Settings' menu in PartWorks by hitting the F4 key on your keyboard to change the settings. You can also access the meny under the Edit drop down list at the top of the screen then look for "Snap Options".

Thanks,
James

Thanks James;Sorry if I wasn't clear. I am trying to prevent the guide lines from snaping to the ruler. I went to f4 and turned everything off and the guides still snap to the 10th on the ruler. I need it to stay where I put it. I know I can tell it exactly where to go but when I am aligning text or objects if I could drag and drop it it would really help and be much faster.

Thanks
Bill

you can right click on the guide line and type in the placement.

Sorry Bill, I should have read your question properly! To my knowledge Steve's method of just manually typing in the location might be the only way to do it.

Bummer Don"t understand why they did it that way. All my other drawing programs drag and drop anywhere.
Thanks to you both.

Hi Bill,

If you zoom into the region where the guide needs to go, you should be able to get it very close, even with the snapping.

The guides snap in 10ths, so being zoomed out to view a 10" long job will snap at 1" intervals. Zooming closer to view a 1" region will snap at 0.1" intervals etc. etc.

This behaviour works well for the vast majority of projects because users typically want the Guide Lines at exact positions on a design. And not simply get placed where ever the cursor stops, followed by needing to use the right mouse options to accurately set the position.

I hope this helps and something for us to look at.

Thanks Tony that is good to know. I don't need to do that very often but when I need to it is frustrating not to be able. Your info worked great and hope it will help someone else thru the search in the future.
This forum and it's members are awsome!

Tony,

I've also come across this from time to time in VCP and would really like the option to set the scale of the rulers. Instead of tenths (have never worked in tenths), I'd like to be able to set it to 8ths, 16ths, etc.

For example, if you set a grid to 0.125" and use guidelines, it would be nice to have the rulers/guidelines synced with the grid and also to be able to snap guidelines to an object or grid.

It's natural when working in metric to work in 10ths. In the backward world of the English imperical system 10th's don't make much sense.

I'm not going to knock the guidelines in VCPro, I'm very happy to have them and will learn to use them as desgined. I will say... a future improvement might be to allow user control of what the Xth's are set to as well as turn them off altogether.
