I wasn't sure where this topic would fit... but does anyone host with Godaddy.com? How is their service? etc...
I'm currently with Network Solutions and my site has been down 6 times for hours at the time in the past 3 weeks and is down again as I type. They don't seem to be able to fix it and or interested in fixing it so I think it's time to move on. I don't, however, want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

Robert,
A few months ago when my internet service provider Speakeasy had me out of service for one week I looked for an alternative. Up til then I hosted my own sites on my own server. I tried IX webhosting. They seemed very responsive but when I uploaded my site I had a few problems with Front Page Server Extensions on there site. They fixed part of the problem but after 3 weeks still could not fix the remaining problem. I did not have this problem when my sites where on my own server. I was going to try godaddy but in the end switched to Comcast for an ISP and switched my sites back to my own server again.

Robert,
I switched from Network Solutions a couple of years ago and went to Godaddy, and I have not had any trouble with them. They are cheaper to boot.

it's hard to choose. I used web host magazine to choose. my current host was rated 1 but it is a bit expensive and does not give much bandwidth.

I have used www.doteasy.com (http://www.doteasy.com) for over 4 years without problems, and they are very reasonable on price.

I've used GoDaddy for about a year without problems (or much traffic), so I'm looking at the program offered by sitesell.com . After using the traditional route for years, I'm ready to give this a try.

I use 1and1.com like Ryan K. I haven't had any problems or downtime with them.

Thanks for the responses, I'm looking at all of them. I am going to wait until after the Bat Fest rush... I don't need one more thing piled on top. At the current rate I expect the site to be down at least 2 more times by then.
Robert
I have been with Godaddy for a while and I have had two problems. I have had numerous times when I could not download my emails using Outlook. Most of the time I could access the emails through the web interface but I prefer Outlook as all my contacts and saved/sent emails reside on my hard drive.
The second problem really p'd me off. It seems that they filter the emails that I should be getting. That would be great if it was stuff like spam and viruses but in my case what they did was they filtered out any emails coming from Directnic - which is a competitor that also registers domain names. Because of this, I didn't realize that one of my domain names was set to expire and did in fact expire, and someone else grabbed it out from under me.
So, I'm moving everything (several web sites and domain names) out of Godaddy and into another provider.

I had almost forgotten about this when Network Solutions dropped the ball AGAIN this morning. This time it cost me $$ for sure.
I ran a little ad in an online classified friday to see what would happen, I've received about a dozen emails telling me my site was broken. I referred them to another online vendor that carries our houses (as well as others) telling them our houses were the shingled models. Who knows what will happen. One guy did email back saying he bought one of our houses and was asking advice... ummm.... problem is... it wasn't one of our houses.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, for this problem to persist for almost 3 months I decided netsol must either not care or not know how to fix the problem, either way it was time to leave.
I appreciate all the advice here and that was emailed. I ended up going with HostMonster.com (which BTW is the same company as BlueHost.com). I forget who emailed the suggestion, but thanks. The service didn't stop after sign up. On a Saturday I got support quickly 4 times while migrating my sites over. Everything went well, I just needed them to tweak a few things on DNS and make some email settings rather wait for changes to propagate. They were cheerful about it too. And the system is designed to be open and provide ample online support, illustrations etc...
So far, I'm pleased.
I'll be tweaking on it for a little while as I learn new features. I already accidentally knocked the site down for about 30 seconds, but brought it right back up. My fault. There may also be some instability for the next 24 hours as DNS changes ripple through the internet.

I've been using Hostexcellence for years with no problems. Price is great and the last time I renewed they added OsCommerce (online store). You have access to Site Studio to build your website (lots of templates). No problems with them the entire time. www.hostexcellence.com (http://www.hostexcellence.com)

ixwebhosting.com is awesome. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with it, and theres a ton of bandwidth available even to the economy class hosting service.

I would recomend Hypermart for hosting.
They have a number of great features and bandwith is awesome...
I have built a number of sites for people and they are great to deal with. We have also used Network Solutions in the past, however, we now only use hypermart.
Comming from the IT world, my expectations are rather high and Hypermart has hit the mark every time.
The key to traffic is SEO (Search Engine Opt.) and you will find Hypermart has a number of tools to help.
