View Full Version : Touchy prox switches
My prox switches go off in the middle of a file for no reason other than they just seem to be too sensitive. They are the newer "bolt" prox switches. I have a PRSalpha 46. I had this problem when I first got the machine and decided to just forego them for the time being. I just moved to a new shop and I'm setting up the machine again and I want to do it right this time.

Keith,
It looks like you have a classic case of 'electronic noise'. The first thing that I would suspect if an input signal switches at the wrong time - particularly when you can see with your own eyes that the sensor is not even close to the target - is electronic noise. If you have not yet searched the forum for the solutions for electronic noise, do that. Be sure that you have connected a good, strong, heavy wire from every axis to a common ground point. Be absolutely certain that the ground wire connects to bare metal. (A 3/4-inch spade bit removes paint better than sandpaper.) Be sure that you have a ground wire running through your dust collection hose. And be sure that only one end of the dust collection ground wire is connected to the common ground point.
I had random problems with my PRT-Alpha when I first started running it in 2004. Those problems totally went away after I properly grounded my machine.
