I had a problem with my CD drive so I brought comp home to go on line to check for drivers in case it was corrupt.
I had got rid of my antivirus because not on line with XP Pro at shop. Well, I got a virus in about 3 minutes. Going to lose comp for a week or 2 I am sure. Is anyone running VISTA with the bot. That is what my back up will be.
Thanks for any input.........Dave

I have heard people having some problems here and there. If you have a copy of xp or 2000 you can download Virtual Machine from Microsofts website and run a virtual PC on XP or 2000. Check with SB first though.

You guys are going to force me to run my bot on Vista aren't you? :-)

I might just try this for fun since I've been able to get Vista (so far) to do anything I've required of it. Granted I've had to turn off DEP and make some interesting settings on a few systems but I'm looking after 30 Vista systems and 4 XP systems. When something goes wrong Vista has been a breeze compared to XP to get things working again. Maybe I'm just missing the worst of Vista... but what's the big deal?

The big deal is the the $3000 Cliowin measurement system I own that windows decided didn't matter anymore and the $2000 worth of speaker design software that can't be run on a Vista machine because Microsoft can't find space in their 30gigs of hard drive space and 2 gigs of memory to make vista backwards compatible. When the same this could be done on a 1Gb thumb drive and still get everything to work.

I agree that if I encountered software that would NOT run on Vista that does run on XP and I had to have it that would be a big deal. All I'm saying is I've not seen that happen yet within my realm. Either the vendor has relased updates making it work or I've been able to tweak/threaten Vista and make it work.

David,

I have been running Vista Home Basic with my PRS for a year. The computer is an Everex Laptop(cheap). I have only had two minor issues.

First, when I run the table top surface program, it will only save it as a text file. I have to go into Wordpad and open it up and save it as a SBP file.

Second, if I leave the Shopbot program on for a couple of days, it will hang up and I have to close the program. Once I open it again, I am ready to go for another two or three days. Best if I remember to close out the Shopbot program and reload it before I start each day.

I would recommend that you have a minimum of 2 Gigs of Ram, Vista is a hungry beast. I also went into the "msconfig" file amd unchecked all unecessary services and start up items.

One other note, I store all my files on another computer and use a network to load the file to the Shopbot computer (Everex).

Hope this helps.

Larry

I'm never buying another windows product again. MS is now on the Erik Francey Boycott list.

Eric...
That will sure shorten the list of software you will be able to "enjoy"

Since you wont have a M$ operating system to run your Bot, can I have it? LOL Gary

I didn't say I wouldn't use a MS product...I just said I would never buy one

Any brave souls tried Ubuntu Linux with WINE
("WINE Is Not an Emulator" a recursive acronym!
)
to run Windows apps and the ShopBot itself?

In theory, it _should_ work.
