We are starting to get the hang of things with the shop bot but have run into a strange problem. Just wondering if anyone else has had it and why? We have mirrored a couple of different images. Here is the problem after we mirror them we highlight for toolpaths, so both images have the same toolpaths but when we cut them in both case there were either vectors missing or one part was different size. Not for sure what we are doing wrong? But I would like to straighten out this problem before I start tring to cut a bunch of cabinet parts using the mirror option. Thanks again for any help.

Here is the file. Notice when previewed the bass lateral line on his side is not the same. Note we did draw that line in ourselves. But mirrored it should be the same.

Kevin- what software are you using? When you say you are mirroring an image, is that a vector description of an image? or an image such as a JPG?

One method you can use is to draw the bass as a separate SBP file, then use the shopbot FP command to invert the X axis.

You could either set a new zero and run the inverted cut file, or use the Offset option in the FP. Either way you would be using the exact same cutting commands for both left and right images, so the results should be nearly identical.

Hope that helps-

Dana That Image was a true Vector file. I am using partworks newest version.

Have you tried to cut the file in something cheap like insulation foam to see how it really looks when its cut?

If the result looks as non-symmetrical as the preview I would recommending creating one cut file for the bass and cutting a mirror image using the FP command on the bot like I suggest in the previous post. Then it will give the result you want every time.

If you want to make a bunch of these all alike, create a file that has a series of FP commands in it and run that. There is a discussion of how to do that in the manual that comes with the bot. Then you have one file to run, and it runs the text carving SBP file then runs the left and right versions of the same SBP file.

I have had some tool path issues with partworks myself, (particularly in pw3d) and have found other ways to get the results I want.

Hope these suggestions help-
