Well, I think is time to post mine, after a long period of time waiting to put the bot to work, last saturday I did a sing for a school here in my city, I have to said that it was the first attempt, the first cut, except for the test cut on blue foam.
All the information about materials, tools, paints, feed rates, speeds, ALL !!!!!, WAS ON THE FORUM, THANK YOU ALL YOU GUYS for that.
Here is...

Stephen, very nice work, what you use for hold down? what size is the rosette diameter? is not awesome the way you see this machine doing everything?, now I'm dreaming with this blue thing.
congrats. it is beautyfull.

German - First attempt?!?! I can't wait to see a few signs once you get the hang of it.
Very nice.
Stephen - I really like that. Any chance you would share the file? I have a friend that likes to hand-carve wooden pretzel-shaped knots and he always asks me how I would carve a knot on the Shopbot. That is the closest thing I've seen - and it's very cool
German,
Admirable job.
The cuts look very clean considering the material. I like the choice of lettering too.
I would be a little concerned using such deliclate material, that close to the ground around a shool. Extira might be a good option.
Any way keep up the good work.

Thanks German , I screwed down a square blank a little over 1" thick , cut to 1" deep and sanded the back through to release the work. It's 26.5" dia.
The whole reason I bought this machine was to watch it work!
David , I wouldn't mind sharing the cutting file. I cut this with the second head on my machine. If you have only one Z , I could do a file for that.
It's 26.5"dia , can't go any smaller without loosing detail , cut with 1/4" upcut . What thickness would you like it to be?
Stephen,
Pardon me, but I forgot to complement you on the nice pattern work.
Keep on having fun and show us what youre doing.

absolutely awsome, how long did it take you to lay it out in artcam, if your sharing the file, I would love to give it a try, looks like a great piece to see workingon the machine.
Now, I just need to get the machine out of the crate on the truck, and put together, a few minor setbacks had me less than fully prepared for the arrival of my machine

Thanks a bunch for sharing the file. Here it is with X and Y proportion set at .25 and Z proportion set to .5 (3/8" deep), in hard maple. While I was at it I made one for my other half for our anniversary. In the center is one of my buddy's hand-carved knots.

Nice work guys! David, what size bit? What feed rate, speed and depth per pass to cut something that delicate in maple? How long to cut?
steve

David , looks real good , like Bruce said , what bit , speed etc. did you use . ThinkI'll make a small one as well!

Gerard , I think it took 3 or 4 hours to draw , I am still learning how to use the tools in artcam.

I used a long 1/16" spiral cutter at .7 ips, 16,800 rpm, 2 passes at .1875" per pass. Cut time just over 16 minutes.
David - no problems with bit deflection using 1/16" at that depth per pass? Or did the .7ips help prevent it?

I will have to cut out some today. I was surprised how easy they are to draw.

Impressive work Stephen.
Fill in the center and it would make a nice trivit. Probably not a profit making product but another idea to try. If I only had more time.

here are a couple I cut out of 1/4" padouk. I used a 1/16" endmill at 1.5ips and .25 pass depth. they are 8" around

Off Topic I know ...
Stephen, I had an opportunity to play (unescorted) with Artcam pro at my friends shop but with little success. I did not see how to export to anything other than an ".art" file. How do you make a SB cut that? I am seriously considering picking this up if it really meets my needs. I believe I am taking the next class in Durahm after the 19th. (the very nerve of my friend getting married that saturday)
Joe.

Joe,
You don't need ArtCAM to produce this part. It can be done in PartWorks, which is included in your tool's purchase, just as easily (as steve knight has illustrated)
Nice cuts everyone - Question: What are they? Trivots? Hot plates?

Mine will be developed into a commercial product , mirror frames. I'm also doing a square one , and another pattern. Half the reason I did it was to learn how to do it.

"Half the reason I did it was to learn how to do it."
Excellent reason, Stephen. Keep going with that - it will suit you & your wallet well!

Stephen, I like your thinking. It is the process of making something that you have never made before that gives you knowledge and experiance with the software and machine. I will often take on something new for someone, at a slightly reduced end price to them, just to get a feeling for it. My first large outdoor sign was like that, and with alot of help off the Forum, it came out great. Now I wish I could just do one or two sign jobs a month.
