I've looked at klockit and other sites but can't find specifically what i want so let me describe what i'm doing for your advice.

I want to make a clockface out of corian being inspired by these examples here:

6924

6925
(if anyone knows who made these please pass it on to me, i would like to ask where they got their movements.....)

Anyway I want to light the face of the clock with cold cathode lights. In doing so the bulb has to sit back 2.5-3 inches from corian. I don't want the mechanics of the time movement to be in front of the cold cathode lights so i need a clock movement that can be mounted behind the lights (or alongside) but the movement can accomodate a 3+ inch long stem so you won't see anything. Any ideas?

Jack,
I'm about to leave for family Christmas at my siste-in-law's are I'd look for you but look on the Vectric forum. I'm seen them over there I think. Do a search for clock.

Jack if you use leds you can get by with a narrower box. This box is only 2.25 overall I could make it thinner but I wanted it to stand by it self.

You might consider edge lit illumination. Its thin and you can hide the mechanism behind the lighting as its only 1/4" thick.

here's one place that sells endlighten acrylic. Its awesome and you can get it in custom sizes. At about $15/sf, its not cheap.

Another source for edge lit illumination is scavenging dead LCD panels from laptops, etc. You can buy dead lcd panels from ebay for next to nothing. Remove the CCFL from it, replace with LED strip lighting and boom, you're in business. The panels are plastic so you can easily drill through them and the illumination is very even so you can put them right behind the corian.

LED strip lights are available from a number of stores and from ebay. They run on 12vdc and light up endlighten plastic and old LCD panel backlights really well.
