If this has been discussed I couldn't find the right term for search.

Several times I might set something up to cut. I go in and set my safe Z to .50, I do a C2,I set the file to start and depending on how thick the material might be the Z rises up and defaults and just drops. Most times you have your vac table running and dust collector so you can't hear it "topping out" before it falls.
Probably most times it might be "pilot error" in setting the file up.

Is there any way to build in a "failsafe Z height" so it will just stop before it tops out and falls and ruins your piece? Maybe some kind of visual clue like a flashing cue on the screen?

Jack,

Just add a prox switch to your Z axis and it will work just like the XY prox's do.

Jack,

Try this topic "Proximity Switch for Z Axis".

I have found lately that I know what i want to say or describe but my mind can't find the word even though i know it. Can alzheimers hit in the 50's?
The link makes it pretty clear. Thanks that helps. I will see if shopbot sells a single prox switch. I'm a little afraid of cutting the wires.

Jack,

If you don't want to cut the wires, do a homerun back to the controller. There is really nothing special about the wires.

Of course, if you go the less expensive route you have to spend the money you saved at ShopBot.
