I need to undercut a round exterior edge with a dovetail bit and do not know how to get the bit in and out. I think I can ramp it in but partworks seems to only pull streight up when done. None of the dovetail bits I've seen will plunge so I have to cut away an area around the perimiter to drop it in but getting it back out has me stumped. HELP!!!
Thanks

Bill,
Create an offset vector around the perimeter of your part for your "on profile" dovetail bit path. Use the node editor to break the vector and create a very slight gap. Use the line tool to connect to one side of the gap for the lead in, and another line, parallel to the first, leading out from the other side of the gap. Join the lines with your offset vector and use the "on profile" toolpath.
You can make the gap a few thousandths of an inch and then change the join vector tolerance to a lower value. This should give you what you want.

I thought that PartWorks was the same as Vcarve Pro. If so, you should be able to do a lead in and lead out as shown here. You should be able to do a wiggle down too (by adding a zig-zag ramp with no ramp on lead in), but no wiggle up out. You could manually edit that in or you could predrill/rout a entry/exit hole first.
