Hi everyone... I know this has been covered before, but I can't, for the life of me, find the thread.

I need some long skinny router bits to cut foam (extended or extruded polystyrene). The bits need to run in a PC router, so 1/4" or 1/2" shank diameter. Does anyone have a source for these?

I'm hoping I can find a bit with at least 3" of cut that's not too wide. I remember seeing a link to a company that sold a set of tapered bits...

you might call fred at www.centuriontools.com (http://www.centuriontools.com) maybe he can make something up for you if you can't find it. I know he has made tooling for other botters here.

onsrud cutters has long bits

James, do you know an onsrud part number? I'm having a hard time finding such a bit on their website.

the onsrud taper ball nose #'s start with 77-100, 102,104 etc.

52-574 3/8ced 3.5"cel 3/8" shank 5" oal
if you don't have a 3/8 collet then 2.25"cel on 1/4" shank will be a 52-564 but that doesn't get you to the 3" depth of cut you want.

Forgot you could also go HSS on 1/2" shank
40-562 3.625"cel or 40-564 4.125"cel

Thanks for all your help!

I ended up buying a pair of bits.

52-564 (.25" Diameter, 2.25" Cut Length, 4" total length) so I can do the rough finish on 2" foam in a single pass.

52-280BL (.25" Diameter, 1" Cut Length, 4" total length) This will be my finishing bit, I just have to make sure that I don't eat more than 1" of material during the finishing passes.
