Any computer experts out there? I tried to use a laptop on a new BT32 but it wont work as the usb is 1.0( cant change the card I dont think), then I remembered I had an older P3 Dell Dimension with XP home on it.It also has an un"enhanced" USB 1.0 on it. Would anyone know if I can swap out the usb card? It has only two USB ports but there are a few open slots below - TIA Neville

I'm not sure if a pcmcia (pccard) usb 2.0 will run at full speed or supply full current, but I use a d-link usb 2.0 model dub-c2 to copy files from a pentium 3 1ghz to a memory stick and it flies. The pc card slots on my hp's are all on the left hand side when you are facing the screen.

Here's the model link:

you can put a usb 2 card into the desktop without no problems. if your laptop has a pcmcia 2 slot it would work.

After upgrading to the 4G controller in 2006, I found I could only get to about half of max jog speeds with my old 800MHz Pentium 3 and its motherboard running Windows XP Pro. Now I'm running a 2 year old 2.2 GHz AMD cpu and it required a newer motherboard.

There is a ShopBOT web page that lists computer requirements:

http://www.shopbottools.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/search.htm

Unless you are running an 800MHz cpu, looks like you won't even meet their "minimum" requirements. Check with ShopBOT before buying a USB card that may not help you. Also, note they recommend XP-Pro.....

Spec says a Pentium @ 800 mhz, so would a Pentium 2 @ 300 work or is that still less than the 800mhz speed on a P1?

Neville, to see what you really have, right click the "My Computer" Icon on the desktop, then click "properties", and you should see what chip you have and its speed. It will also show how much ram you have, there is a minimum for that as well.

Harold, its has a P2 with 256 ram, I might just use it to play music instead, It runs XP so I guess it wight work, my PRS A runs on XP Home with seemingly no problems. Any way thanks for your answers - Neville
