I have an opportunity to buy the above, its like Corian, 100% acrylic and they are 30" by 120" sheets - any idea how much Corian or similar costs for that size? I'll share the location if its worth buying for Austinites - :-)

Corian varies depending on type code and purchasing power. A good average is $500/sheet. I have one job for which we use "Festival" Corian. Single sheet price is 595, pallet is 525, and commercial discount based on future projects is 495. Corian is 30 x 144. Are you looking to carve it for Litho's or use it for a countertop?

Thanks for the info Dave, I hope revealing the price of Corian doesn't get you put on the "No fly list" or anything. Actually what I want it for was to practice cutting so the price for Montelli is acttractive enough.

If you don't need corian in big sheets you can buy it off ebay for about $2.00 for a 12"x12" piece. I did.

Neville: It's usually not too hard to talk the local fabricators out of some scrap to play around with. Quite a while ago when I was doing a couple for fun I showed a Litho to one Corian fabricator who then loaded me up with every piece of scrap (Usually sink cutouts) they had.
Different solid surface mills differently. LG Hi-Macs and Avonite, for example, are typically more brittle.

Dave
LG Hi-Macs and Avonite are usually not 100% Acrylic (containing some fiberglass) and do not work well for Litho's. My shop used to be next a granite/marble fab shop. When they upgraded a customer from Corian to granite/marble they would bring me the torn out Corian to recycle. I have two full kitchens of it in storage.

Well Doug: You can be prepared for Arizona area Botters wanting to talk you out of some of it now!!! I've actually only used Corian and cast Acrylic for plastic carving-The other stuff has gone through for countertops only and I really dislike working with it.
