I'm planning to finish the inside of my new shop building with white metal. (the part the shopbot is in) I have the option - for about 25% more expense - of using a perforated metal that is supposed to help absorb noise. Anyone with any experience here? Would you spend the extra $$$? Would there be more advantage using this for the ceiling or the sides of the room?

But won't the metal also absorb and radiate heat into the building also? Unless you have AC i'm not sure thats a good solution. Also I believe that the metal doesn't actually absorb the noise as much as it might break up the soundwave thereby making it lower but not as much as some type of sound absorbing material.
You might check into how they set up recording studios and how they control sound. Maybe some type of soft eggshell formed foam?

Years ago I worked for a company that manufactured sound panels for equipment rooms. The panels were made by sandwiching R-11 bat ins. between two sheets of perforated metal. The rails were made of 28 ga. channel. By turning the channel to the outside you can slide the panel over a 2x4 kick plate at is attached to the floor or wall.
