What is it about the 7.2 motors that makes it take so long to get the upgrades after ordering? I ordered mine in last part of November and when I called to check on the approximate ship date I was told it would be Jan 11th. What is required to turn the motors into the 7.2 upgrade other than purchasing them from the supplier and adding a connector so they can be plugged into my existing controller? I am just a little puzzled as I received my Bot in less time from order to pickup date and even took a class.

This is not a poke at shobots customer service but after thinking about this for a couple days I am curious as to why it would take longer to get the motors than my new machine? I ordered the new motors out of need for a new set of pinions so when I called to check on the order I went ahead and purchased new pinions as I did not feel I could wait till the new motors showed with my old pinions.

If I had to guess I would say the fact that most 7.2s that are ordered are allocated for tools. It wouldn't be right to sell you motors that are going on a tool ordered before your upgrade. Yanno? I believe that the motors ship directly from Japan, so depending on Oriental's production schedule/stock, shipping etc and SB's ability to get them ordered, in stock, inspected and off to you tested and ready to go...it takes time.

Be patient...they are well worth it...and a steal at the upgrade price.

I feel your pain Dave, but it was worth the wait! I figure that the upgrade is not a money maker for SB nor a high volume item, as such it is being made available in an "on demand" basis and is not a stocked item. As Brady said, any they do have in stock are on the build sheet for a new machine. If I'd ordered a new machine having none I wouldn't want my order held up filling an upgrade for a guy that at least was running.

As for the pinions they are like brakes, you shouldn't wait until it's too late to replace them.

The 7.2 motor upgrade is for PRT-Alpha owners who already have the AS911 style Oriental Motor Alpha motors and drivers.

PRT-non Alpha owners can order the 4g upgrade to add Gecko G202 stepper drivers to their machines. (You would use your existing motors with the 4g upgrade.)

Mike's right, it's for the PRT-Alpha. You get new 7.2 motors with pinions and drivers for each motor. I did the 3 motor upgrade, 2 on the X and 1 on the Y. I did not choose to upgrade my Z axis.

Wow what a difference.

Hang in there , The wait will definately be worth it..... Its not just 3 motors , its the 3 motors The drivers that bolt to the back of the box , cables , ribbon cables and you will have heat sink ( which i had no clue what it was before i did my upgrade ) and new springs hooks and pinion gears. When i did the upgrade i didnt get the ribbon cables on both sets of pins on the x drives until Chris told me to take the three screws out of the main board then things went alot smoother. if i can be of any help let me know, Gene
