Scott,
I need to do a couple little plaques for the neighbors and i'd like to just fill in the vcarved section with paint or stain. How did you paint this sign?

The easiest way to finish an engraved sign like this is to spray it and then a quick pass through the planer.

I try to keep paint and glue away from my planer knives, so I use a sander.

After carving everything, I brush coat it with a layer of poly to prevent the paint from bleeding, then spray paint it, then sand away the paint overspray, then poly it again.

I'm sure there are other ways, but this works for me.
