Been doing research on this very issue for upgrading my bot. It can be done for around 2 to 3 thousand. Getting everything aligned properly seems to be the issue with this though. There is some talk in old posts about this.

we have 11 machines based on shopbot all with linear rails and have not had too many issues with getting proper alignment. Basicly set up one side then run back and forth to get the other side aligned. this goes for all 3 axis. we do a 12 x 5 machine for about $2500.

It's obvious that there wouldn't have been 10 others if the first one didn't live up to expectations. However what have the advantages been Joe?

Joe,

Can you provide some more details such as what rails, what bearings etc. I have been trying to get information on the possibilities of doing this myself but have been reticent to spend several thousand dollars on something that may not work.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

David

Joe,

I would also love some more information on your setup. I have been looking at this for some time and really don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone is already rolling with a setup. The specs for the linear rails can get quite confusing at times.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Joe, nice web site. You might want to update your profile to include www. as your profile link doesn't get one to your nice web site.
Happy holidays

What model intek linear rail/bearing do you use? An actutor would have a screw or belt in it. Does yours?
