I am making a 8' guitar to hang on walls. the plan was using mdf 3/4" and 1/4. but the weight and shipping will be fairly high. any idea's on what to sue to make it? I found sign foam locally but they only have it in 1.5" and 2" and at over 300.00 a sheet it is not practical. here is a picture of one.

You could always sue Microsoft, they've got deep pockets.
But seriously why not ultra lite trupan.
Ultralite MDF, $23 a sheet

Steve, on large items like this I use regular MDF then hollow out the rear to about 1/8" of final thickness.I use the mirror command and after cutting the outline on my spoilboard flip the thing over and run a pocket routine. Saves a ton of weight and keeps the material cost low enough to make a buck.

I always type sue instead of use. drives me nuts since the spell checker does not catch it.
the weight issue is something I suggested. they were quoted as regular mdf. I wanted to help the fellow out. it would take 16 minutes to hollow out he back this thing is pretty large. it only takes 2 minutes to cut it out.

Steve
delete the word sue from your dictionary. Then it will alert you. I've done this for a few words that I type with 'rapid' fingers.
Like to guitar.

Hey Steve,
I have the same problem...consistently typing "teh" instead of "the".
Do a Google search for "Texter". It's a free program that you can tell to look for a particular string like "sue" and it will automatically replace it with "use" no matter what program you're using. As long as you're not a lawyer (or married to Sue!) and have to also type "sue" all the time I think you'll like it.
One thing to remember is to not use Texter on the computer that runs your ShopBot...it messes with the communications because it's always checking for keystrokes.

You'll probably find that your shipping will be cube volume vs weight. They usually allow 15 lbs per cu ft. Talk to the transport company first.
