Making my shopbot into an XY Cutter for sheetfoam

I want to try to use my shopbot as an XY cutter to cut some foamboard. It is basically a sheet of 1/8" foam with tagboard on each side. I have been thinking of using a collet to hold a shortened exacto knife and letting the router swivel (it would be off) to move in the correct direction. My wife has a circle cutter for scrapbooking that works like that. The blade spins based on the resistance of the foam. Anyone ever tried anything like this?

That's what the Vinylmate does, but I'm not sure about the 1/8" thickness. Wouldn't hurt to give 'em a call.
