View Full Version : How easily we... at least I, forget...

I took a short term contract job related to my previous life as a network engineer, I'm building out a small data center. Before I started I loaded up on bat houses and we've been shipping from stock. That stock is almost gone so I'm ordering materials and getting ready to run some more. I've done a couple of small projects in the mean time but I've not had any serious bot time in almost 3 weeks now.

How quickly you can forget... when I went out to setup for a job I found myself hesitating and double checking things I was doing naturally a few weeks earlier. I have proved yet again that "use it or lose it" is still true.

I've missed the bot and you guys but this contract was too sweet to pass up (i.e. it pays well) but here is the BEST part... I'm firing the bot up on this job! Part of the project involves some large electronic privacy glass windows and the original contractor to install the windows did a rather lack luster job with the frames. I asked why we didn't install some wrap frames with the company logo carved into them... next thing you know; quoted, accepted, sold! I'll be sure to post pictures when we finish up the job.

BTW, I needed ultralight Trupan so I finally found a way to get it. For those guys around Atlanta check out the supplier list forum for details.

Using your bot should be like riding your bicycle. Once you learn you never forget!

Robert,

That is a great justification to keep a notebook or at least a "setup sheet" for jobs that you have not run in a while.

I also love being able to incorporate my hobby into my business.

Jack, I can't ride a bicycle that well anymore either... but I don't think it's my mind's fault on that one ;-)

Bruce, I agree, I keep notes in a "readme.txt" file inside of just about every job I create that'll be more than a casual one off.

I experience this too. It's the same reason I don't pursue finishing my pilot's license. I know I couldn't afford the time or money to keep my edge.

Robert and others!

ShopBot knew you would have this trouble before you bought your machine! How about that for thinking ahead.

Run the SB3 software and under Tools you will find the Header writer. There you can incorporate all kinds of information about your file, setup etc, etc.

Hope this helps.

..... now what was I going to do this morning????
