Hi all !
I'm Mike (obviously).
I'm new here. Been reading and stealing ideas for a while, but thought I would sign up.
Great Forum ....by the way !
I thought I would tell you of my good fortune.
We had an older Gerber 5x4 CNC router.(AKA Boat anchor)!
Last summer I went to the 2 day Shop Bot class and decided that I had to get a Shop bot. Of course the one I wanted was the 4x8 Alpha with a spindle. The only issue is that my newbie sign shop didn't have anywhere near that budget yet.
I started combing the internet and as crazy as it sounds I found one in West Virginia that was with a company that auctions off bank repos.
They had the 4x8 Alpha with spindle I wanted ....and it was like brand new !
They were taking bids and I called to place a bid.
The gentleman told me what the high bid was !
I offered $10 more and 2 days later was on my way to West"by God" Virginia !
When I got there I found out that the 4x8 Alpha with a spindle came in a lot !
The lot included 2 new, never opened computers, a massive new , never used dust collection system, and a vacuum hold down system that hadn't been put together yet. Add to that about $1,000.00 worth of new tooling, collets etc.

I walked away after writing a check for $8,000.00

What year model did you get? I (think) the alphas only started in 2006 so it must be fairly new. Sounds like you go a good deal. Post some pictures and maybe we can help you. Good for you!

Actually Jack I think the PRT Alphas date back to 2004, the PRS machines came out in 2006 or 2007.

Anyway, welcome Mike, everyone is apparently too jealous to say anything. That's a great story.

Good luck and have fun with your new setup. We'll keep an eye out for the inevitable questions.

Yes, Mike welcome and congratulations!! That is a great find and this forum is the greatest. I look forward to having many conversations with you (and others) as you get familiar with the 'bot.

As for me, I am an outlier that has been monitoring the forum for a month or so and trying to make a decision on a CNC router. I believe I've made the choice and will probably be calling Dianne on Monday to complete the order. Sorry, I don't mean to steal your thunder.
