Hey, everyone this is our first post. We are about to buy a shopbot and was wondering if there is anyone around Huntsville, Texas that is setup, that might be willing to let us tour.

James,
I'm at Canyon Lake between Austin and San Antonio. If you can't find someone closer, you're welcome to visit here. Let me know.

Thanks,

James and Zelma, if you can get west to Austin there are several of us who can show you their systems. PRS Alpha 5 x 10, PRT Alpha 4 x 8, PRT 4 x 8, and Benchtop. Oscar Garcia in Houston has a Buddy I am sure he will demo for you. Just search for him on this site. There are probably several in Houston area, but I do not know them. Call Diane at ShopBot and she can find someone close for you to visit.
After you get your machine please plan to attend the Jamboree in October in Austin this year. Look under "Camp ShopBots/Jamboree" for current plans. The agenda is still being worked on and will be an impressive week of things to see and learn from, including projects, machines and new or improved software. The climax will be the Maker Faire which is quite an experience.
Hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you, we are still on hold on this end, trying to decide to go with the PRSstandard or the Alpha.
Thanks,

What will you be using the machine for? How many hours per day?

We are not 100% sure yet . . . but we intend to do some signage, shadow boxes, cedar chest, frames. We hope to keep it running "at least" 5 hours a day to start with, more than that once we learn.

Well, a hard decision has been made. James has decided to wait until after the first of the year to get the Shopbot, he wants to wait until we can afford to get the Alpha, because of the price difference . . . we'll wait until after the first of the year.
Thanks to everyone who has helped us in making this decision, we really appreiciate your words of wisdom.

J&Z- I think you will find the alpha machines are really worth the extra money. The Alphas are more than twice as capable in cut speeds, and cutting forces because of the automatic feedback and corrections involved.
Myself, I have few regrets in my life, one is not buying a shopbot sooner! Once you get one and start using it for the things you plan, as well as things you never imagined you will understand that sentiment.
No matter when you buy one, expect it to change your life in a very positive way-

J & Z, the Alpha decision is a great choice! In any event please plan to attend the Jamboree/Maker Faire in Austin in October. You will get a real education in a very short time. There will be a lot to absorb, but if you take notes along the way or leave some bread crumbs you can find your way back to the information that will be displayed. It will be one of the best to date I will bet! Hope to meet you there.

First I want to thank you all for the offers and we may take you up on it.
We would really like to attend the October Maker Faire in Austin. Can anyone tell us how to go about signing up.

Here is the link for Jamboree info. Bill's last message was we are a little early for reservations. By next month I would think they should be taking names. The "fee" is nominal to see who would be serious about coming. It doesn't come close to covering the cost of meals served, but does serve to get a close headcount to plan for.
