aspire, using files provided and the mantle center is from another source, aspire made it easy to configure size and depth. the flutes are cut 3d and vcarve, i have another bath that will require moorish details, it is 18' wide and almost 10' tall, on it i hope to actually make more of the details my self. the are 11 other rooms of cabinets in the house so i have enlisted james booth to help me with some of the details.
thanks

James that is absolutely beautiful. Although i have used what i thought was "basswood" and i found it to be very "stringy" and splintery". Is your fluted pilaster the basswood? It looks like a light color with no real grain pattern in it.
The finish is very nice. How much time do you have in that project?

all of it is alder with the exception of the center(largest carving) it machined well and seemed plenty hard, i bought this from a lumber yard in 1x8, 500' of it and am quite impressed, not like hobbiest bass wood i remeber from the boy scout days

as far as time we are a fairly large shop at 10.000 squarte feet and 5 cabinemakers so with carving, fabrication and finishing may be 55-60 hours.

James,
What bit/tool, parameters, etc did you use for the flourish (top picture dated 11/25)? I was planning a trial cut of the same and appreciate any tips.
Thanks in advance!!

Thanks,
As soon as I get a chance, I'll see if I can carve a couple without too much damage. I'm using Alder too.
This will be my first carving. Cross the fingers!!!!

Inspired by James' post, I tried and here is my first carving using Aspire and the shopbot. It was a good idea to preview toolpaths "Before" cutting as suggested by many other botters.
Thanks

This is a half-model of an actual sailboat rudder I built for a customer last year. I still had the rudder cnc file, so as an xmas gift, I carved the boat's name, launch date etc onto it using Aspire.

With the whole world's economy collapsing, half a million jobs disappearing every week, business large and small in all sectors are closing for good. I find raising prices may not be the best strategy for a company to survive in this climate.
What happens if they go out of business?

OK I started this thread in nov and asked for samples of work done in aspire. So far with the exception of James Mcgrew , all the work i have seen is the same work that you can do with cut 3D and one of there cut files for 25.00 . What else can it do? Show me the work.... what else is comming in the upgrade ? Make me want to buy it...

Hi Gene,
I think most Aspire users are posting their results on the Vectric forum - see the gallery at http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=29.
We have had over 2200 posts in the Aspire general section, 230+ in the tips and tricks and 800+ in the gallery section since Aspire was launched.

Hi Gene,
Here's a draft of an article for the ShopBot website that fits your request.

gene i think the question might be "what do you want to do with your machine and how do we get there" i would not reccomend aspire for a fellow who simply wanted to cut out 200 or so yard decorations from 3/8" ply, or has a vcarve,2d interest only. it probably will be more than some people will need, but for those who do it is absolutly the best value on the market and it is fully capable. it has a following on its forum that sure does not stand second best to any other in the field, so there is no reason a person of reasonable computer literacy could not learn it, certainly not for lack of teachers and support!!

Gene, an example on this thread that does show a nice feature of Aspire but is easy to miss is Neal's Cribbage board. The mountains, fish and banner are 3 seperate files that he has been able to combine, size and position in the software. Plus of course he added the text. Combining the 3D files would not have been possible with Cut3D/VCP (PartWorks/3D) alone.
Richard, on your note on raising the price in the current economy. When the software was released Vectric announced that there was an introductory price which would end at the end of the year. After many customers asking for a small extension to get past Christmas this was extended to Jan 31st. For customers who already had PartWorks or VCarve Pro the upgrade deal was even better than this introductory price as thanks for being an existing Vectric customer. So its not a price raise just the end of the "offer". If you do 3D decorative carving or are interested in it then it would be well worth looking at this before the end of the month. Even once the price goes to its standard level its still a lot of bang for the buck.
Cheers,
James

Just a second to James B.'s point. I got it at the buy a new ShopBot price. Which I though was HIGH.
Having used it now (yes it really is easy). I see every ounce of value in the price after the end of Jan.
If I hadn't bought it at the New Machine price. I would still buy it at the 1995.00 price.
And keep in mind this is from someone with NO 3D or CNC experience until I started my Bot the first time 4 days ago.
What i would like to do with Aspire is to take a clipart of a (just as an example) a steer head and make a 3D carving of it. I also would like to know if you can do work like the people at Foamcarver and Daryl Blanton do . They do prop type carvings and some incredible things for displays in restraunts and theeme type places. I have been told that the new things to come in the newer versions will have the slicing feature as well as more incredible things as well. I am going to Batmans Camp this saturday and hope to see others that can help to answer some of the questions also. Thanks for the info and i hope one day i can return the same to all of you.

I just received my copy of Aspire, WOW! I had my own software company many years ago and I can certainly appreciate the work and skill of this major undertaking. If you haven't taken advantage of their first release discount you'd better hurray, just a couple of days left. BTW, I'm not affiliated with Vectric in any way, just a real admirer of their wonderful work. And yes I will post some samples as soon as I can get my pathway shoveled out to my shop.

And if you still think the price is high, James B throws in 50 3d models in 3 different styles each, worth well over the $1900 price tag.
