Joe,
I just did a sign that I am finishing with the Sikkens log cabin stain. I have used the cedar color stain before but this time bought the natural. It looks fantastic on cedar! How many years can I expect before needing to re-coat? Directions say 4 yrs.
One thing - I applied it in my shop with the door open and the fan running and my eyes still burned. Strong stuff but gorgeous.

Bruce,

Yes, Sikkens is stinkey. Really Stinkey and you should get those panels outside as quickly as possible. I'm not sure how it safe it is to breath for a long time. Your eyes burning is a red flag. Terry, my main helper, has had the same complaint. He puts a big fan at his back and paints away. Be careful.

I don't know of another product like this one. It's really beautiful and lasts a long time. The most vunerable area's are the end grains, So give them a tripple coat. That's where you will notice the first signs of gray weathering.

The "Natural" won't last as long as the "Log and Sideing" variety but you should get three years at least. I've found the Log & Siding good for five years with one coat.
