What gauge is the wiring from the controller to the factory steppers?

Thanks in advance,

you know the wires running from the motors to the controller...

I would call support for that because there may be some limitations on wire type, grounding etc... No need in adding wire to find out it now is full with electronic interference...

hey joe
give me a call, I have old set of wires and motors you can look at to gauge the size of wires. 288-6256

I'm pretty sure that PRT & PRS Standard tools use 16 gauge wires. Alphas use a combination of wire sizes in the bundle that range from 26 ga to 16 ga depending on their function.

I would not mess with the Alpha wires. Bite the bullet and buy them. The Standard wires, if you need to lengthen them etc, need to be stranded. Solid lacks flexibility...

Thanks Brady, thats what I needed. I have to rewire the bot and I wanted to be sure I used a heavy enough wire. I also wanted to start with shielded sets.

Mark, I have started setting the Bot back up in the new workshop. I may call you when its gantry lifting time :o
Thanks for always looking out for me.

I found some nice wire (16/4 stranded) fully shielded wire from a local outfit for about 33cents a foot. This is shielded wire with a ground strap for the shielding. I believe that this is overkill for my needs but thats part of my charm
After I install the shielded the 120VAC line EMI should be shunted to extinction in the stepper wires.

BAD EMI!! Go To Your Earth!!!

Can you use straight shielded wire? I was under the impression that the communication wires in the 4 wire bundle were a twisted pair, and the 4 wire was shielded for additional protection. I guess I have never really taken a good look at it.

I have been chasing a ghost myself. I have tracted it to the wire runs to the stepper motors for my to Z axis routers. I have a weak FM radio station that I listen to for a course gauge to find the noise. WHen I power the controller with all lines plugged in, I get the noise on the FM channel. If I disconnect the Z-axises, the noise is gone. I hope to put a scope on it over the holidays to try and track it down....

Joe -
Let us know how your wire run works out....

one more delay! Its always something. Now I need the connectors that attach the motors to the driver. ARGH! I dont remember where that end of the burnt cable went. Prolly in the circular file.

So what are they called and would I be able to get them locally here any where? (Here is southeastern VA)

I really wanted to get the bot up and running this weekend.

Do you mean the Wago connector

Yes. Well it is a WAGO type. Since you 'clip' the wires in. More specifically I need a means to find our connector and shape configuration.

7742saves the weekend!!! Allowing me to have his connectors whilst I order him some new ones!! WOOHOO. We are back on!!

Just an FYI - the path of least resistance is to buy the Wago connectors from ShopBot directly. They have them at a good price & in quantities that most other distributors won't sell to you for.

I am all over that on monday. It was really about expediting the setup today.
