Com Ports

I connected my shopbot(2004 model I think) to the old computer that came with it, but the control software was DOS. I downloaded and tried installing the WIndows version. The old computer wouldn't read the CD nor would it recognize a jump drive. So I bought a new computer(Win XP), installed the software, and now it won't connect to the router. I have the controller connected to the serial port and the software tried to connect to 4 com ports. It won't connect and the computer locks up when attempting to connect to com port 3. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I would like to know the same answer
In the past, I upgraded to XP and had to reboot the computer several times to get the ports to show up, they work fine now though.

Never mind guys. I found the trouble. The software was on the PC but had not been loaded to the controller yet. I found that by accident I guess. Got the shopbot moving now. Moved the x and y axis and now the y axis is stuck on a limit switch. Have to figure that out now
