Hi Everyone. I was wondering if anyone that has bought (either new or used)and shipped a bot to canada (ontario) can tell me what extra expenses there might be. I have the quote from shopbot for the shipping but am unsure about any border brokerage fees etc. Just putting the final figures together to order a machine.

If I remember correctly, I paid just over $100.00 in brokerage fees, plus GST on the value of the machine and brokerage.

Steve, did you arrange the brokerage company or did shopbot help with that?
I just paid the GST as, at the time of purchase, it was for personal use. I did the brokerage myself. Either for personal use or commercial, if you can get all the brokerage for $100, then go this way as custom agents aren't the coolest people and you'll need to interact with them if you do it yourself.
There are no custom duty on this machine as it is made in the USA. This is important to mention.

Glen, I arranged the brokerage company.
The cost of brokerage is based on the value of the goods. Look in the Yellow Pages and call companies to find the most reasonable price. You have to do this ahead of the freight pick up, as the name of the broker should be stated on the way bill.
Make sure the documentation includes a NAFTA certificate of origin so that you don’t incur duty charges.

Glen,
E-mail me and I'll give you the info you're looking for. There is no duty because the brokerage listed it as 'parts'. If you declare that it is a complete machine then there may duty depending on how it is classified at customs. ie wood working tool, technical robot etc. This is where the brokerages earn their keep. I had all the i's dotted and t's crossed and it still took two + hours to clear customs.
