View Full Version : Z axis spring balance

The factory set springs balance the z axis quite well. My z axis slowly sags after the power is turned off, usually stopping when it makes contact with the spoilboard. This seemed OK until yesterday when I was preparing a cut and the power failed. Luck was with me - the spindle was not running at the time but it certainly would have ruined the piece I was preparing to cut.

I am considering fiddling with the springs to get the z to slowly rise with no power applied.

Any comments?

Thanks - Terry

I had the same issue.
Especially after I added a drill.
It was able to easily solve - McMaster-Carr has the springs-less then $10.00 for both.

I found a screen door spring at the "big blue" that works good and it was 2x as long as the original 2. So I have only one spring with center not stretched between the bolts used to hook the original spring.

take look at this site. tell them the length and amount of weight of z and they can match what you need.
