Here are some pictures of my latest foray into synergetic construction.

Recently I came in contact with a landscape architect and local food advocate from Berkeley, CA. She asked me if I could redesign and rebuild the ailing greenhouse of her neighborhood garden.

The result is the Algarden Zome.

1331

A 25'x10'x10' modular structure. The 84 double layer panel frames were cut from 16 sheets of 1/2" marine ply and sandwich the greenhouse grade translucent plastic sheeting. Each panel is tongue and grooved to its neighbors with creased strips of hdpe. Everything was Bot cut. The panels were fabricated in the shop and painted on site during a community garden workday. Assembly was performed the following Saturday by myself with two helpers in about 8 hours.

The project was a real pleasure to design and assemble.

The best moment was shortly after it was complete - a local architect was pushing on it to assess the strength and said, 'Oh my god - it's like a boulder'.

At first glance you might not think it is that sturdy based on its shape but clearly it must be. It looks like it was fun to put together and when it comes together you like to stand back and admire it for its workmanship. Good job. Very cool!

It was designed in Sketchup. It is fun. Inside it's a pretty cool space as well. Organic garden - organic shape..it seemed to be appropriate.
